Big News!

August 26th, 2010

Hello everyone!

I’m very happy to announce that my brand spanking new website is up and running!

The new website looks way cooler, runs more smoothly, contains a number of new pictures, changes to the galleries and even has a shiny new feature – a password accessible client area. :)

My thanks to the excellent team at Creative Motion Design for the web design and their help (I’m useless at all this tech stuff) in the smooth transition.

I also want to take the opportunity to thank you all so very much for your continued support. As of the time of writing this I’ve hit 11,173 individual visitors to my website and blog! :)

Cheers!

Explosions in the Sky

November 1st, 2009

I have amazing news to share with you today!

Explosions in the Sky have graciously agreed to allow me to play some of their music on my website!

They’ve been one of my favourite bands ever since I was first introduced to them, back when I was living in London, by my good friend Joao (Who, by the by is an extraordinary actor, writer and movie director – check out his IMDB page here).

Back to Explosions in the Sky – They’re primarily an instrumental band and they play simply the most incredible music. One-of-a-kind! Check out their website here!

I can only describe their music with words like: epic; totally captivating; completely immersive; intense; active; soft; and loud.

That said, their music speaks for itself.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Gone Pro

September 27th, 2009

So, I found out recently that a friend of mine whom I haven’t had the chance to speak to in ages has recently converted and chosen to follow the mad path that is freelance photography.

Rita has put a lot of time and effort into honing her craft – and it shows.

It’s quirky, smart, trendy and brims over with life. If you’re interested in cool portraits, great urban and location photography, and some fab shots of goods and goodies then check out her website here.

A Stolen Moment

September 23rd, 2009

When I was going through my photo albums sorting and choosing the pictures that would go onto my main website there were a number of shots that I enjoy immensely that nevertheless never made the final cut, for whatever reason.

Such as this stolen moment here.

I took this off one of the islands dotted around Abu Dhabi. I made a goodly number of pictures that day, but this is one of the small handful that speak to me.

I like the colours, play of light and delicacy of the unguarded gesture…

Subscriptions

September 8th, 2009

It seems the FollowSite subscriptions (through the “Subscribe/Follow” button at the bottom of each post) are proving rather unrealiable and many of you have told me that you’re not recieving updates whenever there’s a new post.

Given this problem, I’ll be removing the FollowSite application from the blog in the coming day or two to give a chance for you to switch over to the infinitely more reliable Feedburner subscription options (via both RSS and email) which you can find in the right-hand column.

Should you like, you can find out more about RSS here.

Do let me know if you continue to have problems with the subscriptions. Cheers!

Through His Lens

September 7th, 2009

Today I’d like to introduce you to a good friend of mine and his work. Ghassan Mikati is a travel photographer par excellence.

He has a great eye and a facility for taking small, simple, everyday things and making them look special and beautiful. This all means that he’s come back with awe-inspiring shots from plenty of extraordinary and exotic locales. Even those cities and places which may be familiar to you appear different and fresh, as though another side to them comes out when seen through his lens.

Gus’s photography is all the more impressive when you know that he tends to work mostly with film cameras, as opposed to digital ones – specifically the excellent Nikon F100 and Nikon FM-3A.

So if you’re interested in some very warm and honest portraits, great urban and location photography, and otherwise absolutely fab shots – check out his website here.

Captions

August 30th, 2009

Well, I was supposed to scramble out of town for work and a few weddings, but instead I was (and it seems for the next few days will remain) bedridden with a rather strong flu (no, not H1N1, thank you) and bronchitis. The joy.

Well, the good news is that I managed to get around to doing what a number of you have requested: adding captions to the shots on my website, indicating where and when they were taken.

Enjoy!

The Wandering Photographer

August 19th, 2009

Today is my good friend Dan’s birthday!

Soon, Dan is about to begin a new chapter in a rather well-lived life. After much soul-searching, he has decided to leave the UAE to travel the world hunting for the light. He has decided to combine his travel dreams with a jump into the world of professional photography. And more power to him.

He is passionate, dedicated to his art, has a great eye and a thirst for new experiences.

And he has a number of projects up his sleeve.

I dare say he’ll go far.

That said, it saddens me to see him go. I’m going to miss him. But I’m very proud of him for having the faith to make the leap where many others in his position otherwise wouldn’t, and for having the courage and conviction to follow his dreams.

In view of his imminent departure, he’s set up a photo blog on which you can track his adventures. Check it out here.

You can also see Dan’s fantastic work on his website. And for a behind-the-scenes look at some of his work, check here.

On that note, I’m off to celebrate with Dan.

Happy birthday buddy!

There goes the first update to my website.

A number of friends have suggested they’d like to see the pictures displayed in a larger size, and so here it is.
